    Child bike seats involve safety considerations that go beyond most cycling accessories. Understanding the key variables helps you choose a seat that protects your child and works with your specific bike.

    Mounting Position  

    Front-mounted seats attach to the top tube or a front rack and position the child between you and the handlebars. This position lets younger children feel engaged and lets you see them easily, but it limits handlebar clearance. Rear-mounted seats attach to a rear rack or the seat post and can carry larger children, but shift more weight to the back of the bike.

    Safety Harness  

    A five-point harness holds your child securely through turns, stops, and uneven terrain. The harness should be easy for an adult to adjust and buckle but secure enough that a child cannot release it on their own during a ride. Shoulder and crotch straps that adjust independently allow a precise, comfortable fit as your child grows.

    Foot Protection  

    Enclosed foot rests with ankle straps or foot retainers keep small feet from drifting into the rear wheel or pedal path, which is one of the most common causes of injury with child bike seats. Adjustable foot rest positions allow the seat to grow with your child.

    Bike Compatibility  

    Not every child seat works with every bike. Rear rack mounts require a compatible rack. Seat post mounts have diameter limits and may not work with carbon seat posts. Front tube mounts are limited by handlebar and stem clearance. Check your bike's specifications carefully before purchasing, and when in doubt, bring the bike in and we will help you verify fit.
