How To Wax Your Skis Or Snowboard

How To Wax Your Skis Or Snowboard

So, why wax your snowboard or skis? For one thing, it will make you way faster when you’re out cutting your first tracks. But if you want to know more, watch the video at the end of this post. Then, try it out yourself or head into your local ERIK’S to get your skis or snowboard ready for the winter!

How To Wax

Step 1: Check Edges for Rust or Damage

If your ski or snowboard has any rust, take a gummy stone to it to get rid of it. This will keep your edges in top shape.

Step 2: Scrape Board and Remove Wax

Once your board/ski is in the vice grips or positioned how you need it, you should scrape it off to remove any old wax or debris. Then wipe it down with the base cleaner or wax remover. Let the ski or board dry for 15 minutes once you are done.

Step 3: Brush It

After the ski or board is done drying, take your brass or bronze brush and brush it down, wiping off any excess debris after.

Step 4: Crayon the Wax On and Iron

Start applying the wax to the ski or board once your iron is done heating up. You can touch the wax to the iron and then draw it onto the ski or board as shown in the video below. Once you have distributed enough wax across the board or skis, use the hot iron to iron the wax into the board. Make sure to keep the iron constantly moving to avoid overheating a specific spot. Let the wax sit for 30 minutes once you’re done.

Step 5: Scrape Again

After you've let your board or ski sit for 30 minutes, take your scraper and scrape all the excess wax off. Use overlapping strokes to make sure you get all the wax removed.

Step 6: Synthetic Brush and Scotch Brite Pad

Once you have removed all the wax with the scraper, take your synthetic brush and brush the board or ski to remove any additional wax, then buff the board with a Scotch Brite pad. You should also use the edge of your scraper to clean off any wax on the edges of the board or ski.

Step 7: Hit the Slopes

If you want you can rub some Pledge spray on top of the board to make it look nice, but otherwise you're done with the wax and are ready to rip it on the hills. Get out there and have some fun!
