Specialized Pathfinder Tire Review

Specialized Pathfinder Tire Review

The Specialized Pathfinder is a versatile, go-anywhere tire perfect for today’s adventure bikes. Our very own Tabby Llama-Berry, Service Manager at our St. Paul Highland Park store, decided to put the tires to the test, riding them in a variety of terrain—including one very epic adventure. Here are her thoughts on the Specialized Pathfinder:

Benefits

I was happy to use these tires during the variable conditions of the Heck of the North, which is a 100-mile endurance ride through the back roads of northern Minnesota. I ran the tires tubeless, and they held up wonderfully.

Where the Pathfinder really shows its colors is on the gravel. These tires crave the rough conditions of county roads and sandy river paths, and they even handle well in loose gravel. The tread on the sides gripped the roads for every swift turn, especially on the downhills.

On the pavement, they are silent and swift, much like a thinner, smooth-treaded road tire. The smooth center section makes it easy to zip along paved bike trails or roads with little resistance.

Drawbacks

They didn’t do the best in the mud (however, I don’t handle the mud well either, so I am not faulting the tires). They slipped on muddy inclines, but still persevered to the top. If I were going to do a muddy ride, I’d pick a tire with more tread.

Recommendation

I would definitely recommend these tires for anyone looking for a good gravel grinder tire or even someone looking for a versatile tire for commuting that’s still quiet and fast.
