ERIK'S Is Now in Michigan!

ERIK'S Is Now in Michigan!

Earlier this year, ERIK’S ventured into a bold new frontier: the state of Michigan! Late spring saw the opening of three new ERIK’S locations, one in Traverse City and two just outside of Detroit, in Birmingham and Rochester Hills.

We’re thrilled to continue expanding our reach and uplifting cycling and winter sports in the Midwest and beyond. Find out more about our new locations and our recommendations for bike trails and ski/snowboard hills to check out in these areas, as suggested by store staff and local riders.

If you’re in Traverse City or the Detroit area, stop into one of our new stores—we can’t wait to share our passion for the sports we love with your community!

ERIK'S Bikes and Boards in Birmingham

Location: 33600 Woodward Ave., Birmingham, MI 48009

Our Birmingham location occupies the former site of KLM Bike and Fitness, just north of 14 Mile Road in the north metro area. Just up the road is the scenic Linden Park and Quarton Lake Loop, which connects three city parks in Birmingham (note that this is a popular walking/running trail as well).

If you’re going for a longer ride, stop in to pick up supplies before hitting Paint Creek Trail. This is a well-maintained, 9-mile crushed limestone route that offers a variety of wildlife, historical sites, rest stops, and a trout-filled creek that the trail crosses 12 times. There’s also the Polly Ann Trail, which runs along a former Pontiac, Oxford & Northern Railroad corridor, offering plenty of scenic views and moderate hills.

For winter recreation, let ERIK’S mechanics tune up your skis, snowboards, or gear before hitting Alpine Valley in nearby White Lake. Known as “southeast Michigan’s winter wonderland,” Alpine Valley boasts 25 picturesque tree-lined slopes and four terrain parks.

Ready to Ride in Rochester Hills

Location: 2680 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307

Just a little north of Birmingham lies our new location in Rochester Hills (also the former site of KLM Bike and Fitness). If mountain biking is what you’re after, you have plenty of options in the area. Northeast of Rochester Hills is the Stony Creek Metropark, which covers 4,435 scenic acres packed with bike trails. Here, you can find the Roller Coaster, Back Nine, and The Snake singletrack trails, with curvy descents and rugged climbs that offer a challenge for novice and experienced mountain bikers alike.

Road biking more your style? There’s plenty of that near Rochester Hills too. The Clinton River Trail spans 16 miles of abandoned rail line, offering a secluded vibe while also connecting several suburban communities in the north metro. (Note that this trail is currently closed in spots as it undergoes washout repairs.)

When the weather gets cold, in addition to Alpine Valley (mentioned above), skiers and snowboarders should also check out the Pine Knob Ski & Snowboard Resort in nearby Clarkston. It’s the second-highest ski resort in southeast Michigan (after Alpine Valley), with 17 ski runs, three snowboard parks, and a multitude of rails and jumps to get the heart pumping during those frigid winter months.

Fun in the Cherry Capital: ERIK’S in Traverse City

Location: 2786 Garfield Rd., Traverse City, MI 49686

Traverse City’s nickname may be “the Cherry Capital,” but it might as well be known as the Cycling Capital—People for Bikes even named it the most bikeable city in Michigan in 2023. In other words, it’s the perfect place for ERIK’S! We’re located just south of the Cherry Capital Airport, in the space formerly occupied by McLain Cycle and Fitness.

Traverse City residents already know this is a cyclist’s paradise. To the west is the four-mile Boardman Lake Loop Trail, which combines an urban setting to the north, gentle, scenic curves to the east, and watery vistas to the south and west, with bridges over the Boardman/Ottaway River, a boardwalk over Boardman Lake Cove, lookout piers, fishing decks, and kayak launches. Biking near the city doesn’t get more beautiful than this!

If you’re looking for a longer ride, you can’t do much better than the 10.5-mile Traverse Area Recreation Trail (TART), which stretches from Traverse City to Acme Township. With easy access to downtown Traverse City, you won’t run out of fun things to do while navigating this route. For dirt MTB trails, we recommend the Vasa Pathway, with a series of loops (3K, 5K, 10K, and 25K) ideal for both mountain bikers and cross-country skiers.

Speaking of winter sports, there’s no shortage of options near Traverse City. Many of the trails mentioned above are just as much fun (or more so!) when there’s snow on the ground—just make sure to break out your fat-tire bike. For skiing and snowboarding, check out Mt. Holiday or Hickory Hills after getting a winter tune-up at ERIK’S. Mt. Holiday is a community nonprofit recreation area that operates year-round, with 16 ski/snowboard runs (beginner to advanced) and a fun snow tubing hill. Hickory Hills also offers 16 ski/snowboard runs, a 5k trail for Nordic skiers, and breathtaking views of Grand Traverse Bay and Traverse City from the top of Swede Slope.
