ERIK’S History

Erik was only 13 when he started ERIK’S. His interest was sparked by his first bike – a hand-me-down from an older family member. With an entrepreneurial spirit, and the money he saved from his job as a paperboy, Erik began his business. He bought 50 used bikes, fixed them up, and sold them. Keep reading to learn about the journey to what ERIK’S Bike Board Ski has become today!

Founded by Erik Saltvold in 1977, ERIK’S Bike Board Ski has grown into the Midwest’s leading bike, snowboard & downhill ski retailer. We are passionate about our sports & experts on the gear! ERIK’S is celebrating over four decades of helping customers find their gear!

Erik’s original workshop was in the barn in his parent’s backyard.

A homemade sign brought business to his doorstep. By his senior year, ERIK’S Bike Shop – now stocking NEW bikes and accessories – began to take over storage space from his parent’s basement… to the dining room… to the family room. So at 18, Erik moved his business out of his parent’s barn and opened his first store in Richfield, Minnesota.

Today ERIK’S employs over 450 people and has locations throughout the Midwest.

Our selection of products and services has expanded beyond cycling to snowboards, downhill skis, skateboards, pro scooters, and all the gear that goes with them. But through it, all his business philosophy remains… professional, knowledgeable service in a friendly store environment.

All year long we carry a huge variety of mountain bikes, road bikes, recreational bikes, electric bikes, BMX bikes, and kids’ bikes. We take the time with each customer to make sure you buy the perfect bike for you!

We also carry every kind of bicycle gear you’ll need to enhance your ride for comfort, safety, and performance. Bicycle shorts, jerseys, gloves, socks, shoes, and helmets – we’ve got them. Bicycle computers, car racks, lights, water bottles, and tools – those too. Anything else you can possibly think of for your bike – you’ll find it at ERIK’S! And, if by chance we don’t have what you’re looking for in-store, we can special order it for you! Our staffers are here to help you get equipped with the best so you can get out there and enjoy your ride to the max.

Our Bike Service and Repair

When you’re ready for a pro-tune-up – bring your bike to any of our ERIK’S full-service bike repair departments. Our certified bicycle mechanics utilize the latest technology as well as some good ol’ grease to ensure that your bike rides like new for you all season long. Our Snowboards, Ski, and Winter Gear

From mid-October through February most of ERIK’S stores also feature an unbelievable selection of snowboards, skis, and winter apparel from Burton, K2, 686, Spyder, Volkl, Capita, Ride, Salomon, and more. When you’re in need of an expert tune-up to keep you going strong on the hills – our service and repair department will make sure your gear is in perfect condition! Our technicians utilize the latest technology to make sure that your snowboard and/or skis perform as if they are new. Some of the services we offer include: snowboard binding installation and setup, ski binding installation, mounting and DIN testing, snowboard and downhill ski waxing, snowboard and downhill ski base tuning, snowboard and ski base repair, downhill ski, and snowboard edge tuning.
