arrowTYPES

Transportation: Boards used for transportation are the most common types of longboards and can range anywhere
from 39 - 50 inches in length. Boards are designed and shaped with more flex for cruising comfort.

Downhill: It is most common for longboards designed specifically for downhill use to be 39 to 45 inches long. Boards
are more stiff than transportation boards and trucks are placed at the far ends of the board.
Skatepark: Longboard riders who prefer to venture into the skatepark should opt for shorter boards 35 - 39 inches
long that feature a kick up on the end for tricks and hopping curbs.

arrowTERMINOLOGY

Wind Braking: To help slow momentum, longboarders will use wind braking as one of the first slowing techniques.
Stand erect, open up your arms wide and use the wind to slow your momentum.

Sliding: While the hardest technique to master, sliding is the most impactful method of stopping or slowing down
unwanted momentum. The rider pulls the board out in front of him so wheels move freely with enough friction for a
prompt stop. The Coleman or Pendulum slide are the most common.
Rolling: One can roll it out until momentum slows enough for jumping off or foot braking, or they can roll off. Rolling
off means to roll off the pavement on to another surface with more drag/friction to allow for a safe stop.
